WAYS TO RELEASE PAIN AND ANGER IN A HEALTHY WAY
The first step to take on the path to emotional freedom is to acknowledge our pain and shine a light on it. By shining a light on the dark feelings within, they are unable to hide in the shadows, and subconsciously, take actions to fuel the fire of negativity.
Once we make peace with the negativity and release those emotions, we are free to consciously choose where we want to put our focus, make choices that support our happiness and take conscious actions to grow our well-being.
Here are some healthy ways to acknowledge and release those uncomfortable feelings we may have. These techniques work for feelings of pain, loss, anger, fear, resentment, anxiety, and so on.
STEP ONE: ACKNOWLEDGE AND BE PRESENT
Sit with the uncomfortable feelings. Acknowledge that they are present and that you are witnessing them. Also, it helps to say something to the effect of, even though I feel immense pain and anger, I completely and totally love and accept myself.
Once you are present with your emotions, you can release them.
There are many ways to do this, below are three of my favorites.
STEP TWO: RELEASE
* JOURNALLING *
Journal: Get out a pen and paper and let the emotions fly out of your hand through the pen! Write and write until you feel empty and have exhausted all the emotion out of you.
* CREATIVE EXPRESSION SESSION *
Paint: True authentic creative expression is a safe way to express what can’t be said in words. You can use paint, pastels, even crayons! Use color, stokes, and movement. Let spontaneity guide your marks. Refrain from judging what comes out of you - just let it flow.
By honoring what comes to you spontaneously, you are acknowledging you inner voice, and expressing it in the outside world in the physical form of color, line and shape. By following through on your inner guidance, you are acting in alignment with your higher truth. This cultivates your integrity within and honors your truth, leading you to a place of inner wholeness.
* TWO-POINT FOCUS MEDITATION *
Two-point focus meditation:
Sitting upright in a chair, take a few long, slow inhales and exhales. Let yourself become present with the uncomfortable emotions you are feeling. Then begin to gather them into the core of the belly. Focus on this ball of emotions.
Next, also bring your awareness to your feet resting on the floor.
Focus on both the ball of emotions, and the soles of your feet pressing firmly into the ground.
You will begin to notice the ball of emotions slowly moving downwards.
Keep focusing equally on both your feet anchoring into the earth, and the ball of emotions.
Little by little, the ball of emotions will make its way down to your feet.
Then, give yourself permission to fully release the emotions into the Earth.
Let all of them go into the Earth to be fertilizer for something new to grow.
You are free.
In the newly cleared space, open your heart, and let love and trust fill you with warmth and light.
You may need to do this meditation daily as residual emotions within surface. Continue this practice, and you will be free and clear of your pain, and free to consciously choose to make choices and take actions to walk along the path of your highest wellbeing.
